Self-awareness in fashion

Do you have piles of clothes in your wardrobe, but you only wear a few of them? You're constantly shopping for the latest fashion trends, but you realise at home that you don't feel comfortable in them? What could be the reason? That's what we're going to explore in this blog post.

If we had to answer the question about the reasons briefly, we could say that you don't feel like yourself in it, you can't wear it with confidence. But then why is it that you like it on someone else but not on yourself? - You might ask the next question. It's because the person you see it on probably doesn't have the same body type, style or style sensibility as you. There's nothing wrong with that, you just need to discover who you are and the image you want to project to the outside world. This is the first step, which is linked to self-awareness.

You will learn a lot about yourself in a small exercise. What is this simple yet powerful exercise? Please take a photo of yourself every day for 1 month in your outfit of the day. You can complement this by writing down a few words or phrases for yourself

- how you felt while choosing your outfit,

- the weather you had to adapt to

- why you chose those pieces

- how did you feel when you looked in the mirror before you left?

After 30 days, look through the pictures. Look at yourself objectively, with the outside eye, as a stranger.

- What do you think of yourself, what image, what message do you project to the outside world?

- How tidy was your appearance?

- How confident did you feel in that outfit?

- What would you change about yourself?

- Why did you pair those pieces of clothing?

With this exercise you have taken a huge step forward in your self-awareness. You have seen yourself in the outfits you love. You didn't see yourself in the outfits you bought in the store just because of FOMO, and you didn't feel comfortable in them anymore. You've got an idea of your current style. You may not be fully satisfied with your look right now. What should you do in this case?

Search on Instagram, Pinterest for sets that are similar to your own style. Maybe try 1-2 new outfits a month to complement your existing outfits. Take it one step at a time, otherwise you'll once again have a wardrobe full of clothes you won't wear.

If you're reading about styles, there are countless articles on various fashion blogs. If you are reading about style essentials, we recommend John Kitchener's system. If you want to learn more about body shapes, read about the Kibbe system created by David Kibbe. If you can't find your own style on your own, tell your friends, if you still can't find yourself in your dressing, see a colour and style consultant. He or she will help you define your colour type and show you which styles will make you shine.

Self-awareness is a long journey, and dressing is one or more of the stops on the way. Don't follow fashion, follow your instincts, whether you feel comfortable in a particular outfit or set. If you do, your confidence will grow and you will start to shine. And last but not least, you'll develop a sustainable wardrobe that will make you look stylish.

We wish you every success on this journey of self-discovery.
