Empowering Fashion, Embracing Sustainability

Background

The fashion industry is the 2nd largest polluter in the world. Millions of tons of waste are generated every year, due to improper production practices and overconsumption habits. The EU Strategy for Sustainable and Circular Textiles 20 proposes actions for the entire lifecycle of textiles products, while supporting the ecosystem in the green and digital transitions. However, the new Strategy is putting increased legislative pressure on companies, and the majority of fashion manufacturing, distributing and retailing companies are unprepared. Equally unprepared is Fashion's VET Sector for the dynamic exchange of information within the industry, facilitating transfer of information and sustainable practices within the sector, and equipping its trainers and students with the necessary knowledge and skills, that subsequently arise from the circular economy around fashion. The Re-fashionable project aims to support the VET sector and the fashion industry to adapt to a more sustainable and circular work and study model. Partners will create digital tools for collaboration and education for all the fashion world protagonists: fashion schools, VET organisations, designers, producers, fashion agents, and environmental organisations mitigating climate change resulting from the fashion cycle. We want to make fashion more sustainable and guide the target groups in their journey to climate neutrality until 2050.

Objectives

Our mission is to support the VET sector and the European Fashion Industry in aligning with sustainable practices. Through networking, education, and inspiration for new projects, we aim to:

Raise awareness, generate ideas, and establish commitments for a more sustainable fashion industry.

Provide digital tools and knowledge content to fashion professionals or aspiring fashion practitioners to implement changes in their work towards a more circular fashion industry.

Link and interconnect members of the fashion chain who aim to have a more ecological impact in their work towards a more sustainable fashion.

Reduce waste, environmental pollution, and support new initiatives to change attitudes towards consumption and disposal.

Impact

A digital platform for "learn-connect-collaborate" with the aim of bringing together all stakeholders in the fashion cycle: vocational training schools, designers, fashion companies, and professional and environmental organizations offering specialized knowledge. An e-learning course on sustainable fashion processes, targeting all the aforementioned stakeholder groups. A Summer Lab that will gather members of the target groups to create a sustainable fashion business plan and a set of Video Stories documenting the process.
