Re-fashionable project has started in Girona, Spain

The fashion industry is the second most polluting industry in the world, yet it continues to thrive. How can we make it more sustainable, even if only in small steps? Who can be part of this process and what can they do? Answering these questions is the aim of the Erasmus+ funded project Re-fashionable for the next 2 years.

Why will this be different from a sustainability apprenticeship focusing only on specific target groups? Because the Re-fashionable project aims at creating a dialogue between fashion companies, fashion professionals, fashion school trainers, staff and student, environmental organisations and local and national authorities focusing on sustainability issues, the different actors of the fashion industry.

The Re-fashionable Digital Platform will serve as a platform where articles and useful content will be uploaded alongside the forum to create a real active community around sustainable fashion.
After assessing the different needs of the target groups, a 24-hour Re-fashionable e-learning course will be developed, which will be open to anyone who wants to improve their knowledge on the subject and is looking for real solutions.

Finally, during a four-day SummerLab, students from the professional partners involved in the project (Blue Room Innovation – Spain, IDEC S.A. – Greece, EKO – Kreatív Oktatás – Hungary, Learning Hub Friesland Netherlands) and the schools involved (Qstura, escola de disseny, patronatge i confecció – Spain, Istituto d’Istruzione Superiore „N. Machiavelli” – Lucca – Italy) will develop a sustainable business model to be presented on the final day. The knowledge gained will be transferred by the partners in their own countries to an audience interested in sustainability in the fashion industry.

The kick-off meeting of Re-fashionable took place on 11-12 December 2023, where, in addition to the details of the project implementation, a study tour was organised for colleagues from the partner institutions. In addition to enjoying the Costa Brava, they visited the shop of Organic Cotton Colours, an organisation that transforms regenerative organic cotton into products, and the Qstura fashion school, whose founder Sílvia Castelló is also actively involved in the Re-fashionable project.

The challenge is given, let’s make the fashion industry more sustainable together.
